Europe's OpenAI Rival Mistral Bets $1.4 Billion On Swedish AI Infrastructure Buildout

French AI startup Mistral AI announced a €1.2 billion ($1.43 billion) investment with Swedish company EcoDataCenter to build an AI-focused data center in Borlänge, Sweden. This marks Mistral's first major AI infrastructure investment outside France and is set to begin operations in 2027. The facility will support development of next-generation AI models using Nvidia's latest GPUs, as Europe seeks to strengthen its AI capabilities to compete with U.S. tech giants.
